Broken Crayons Still Color

I never knew how strong I was until being strong was my only option. Someone once told me that I can reach more people from my brokenness than I ever can when I’m whole. Since then, my perspective on brokenness was never the same.

In the beginning I couldn’t appreciate the wisdom of the philosopher words because her words didn’t resonate with the reality of my current situation. Truth is I didn’t understand because I was so broken. My problems overwhelmed me and although I tried to overcome them – I still failed. I couldn’t push myself beyond my brokenness. I was being pressed on all sides of life. My back was against the wall. I had done all I could do. The real truth is that I came to the realization that I had found my breaking point. That was the moment everything fell apart. I felt myself start to panic as I collapsed to the floor.

I asked myself, “What was I to do with my broken pieces?” The answer soon became clear as day. It was a tough pill to swallow because Jesus told me that I had to explore my brokenness. Which meant I had to relive the pain and hurt all over again. So I started to write and write and write until there were no words left to write. This is what I’ve learned from my brokenness and I pray that it helps you.

Dear Broken Me:

Just when the caterpillar thought the world was over, it became a butterfly. You must be ready at any moment to sacrifice who you are for who you could become. Perhaps the butterfly is proof that you can go through a great deal of darkness and still become something beautiful.

Maybe this life is more about unbecoming everything that isn’t really me, so that I can be who I was meant to be in the first place. Sometimes when things are falling apart, they may be falling into place.

Your pain has a purpose. Your purpose is found in your brokenness. When you begin to appreciate the agony of your struggles then you will begin to understand why there is purpose in your pain. What if we were meant to be broken just so that we can be pieced back together again as a new person?

~Jesus pain had a purpose.~ He was broken on the cross for you. His purpose was to save you.

I believe that we sometimes allow the world to shape us into someone we are not and so we become an image that’s of the world. But through Christ we become a new creation. I learned that being broken reveals what’s truly on the inside of you – which is your purpose. For these reasons, I encourage those of you who are broken and those of you who have felt like a piece of yourself went missing. Keep moving forward with your broken pieces. Because when you look for the beauty in your struggles then you will soon discover the unseen purpose in your brokenness.

Broken but not destroyed, shattered yet I’m more of myself then I have ever been.” – Fredrick D. Thompson

Waking up with a purpose. ⏰

The alarm goes off and instantly you reach for the snooze button. You tell yourself you only need 5 more minutes. But what do you need 5 more minutes for?
Why press the snooze button and continue to sleep when you set your alarm clock for a reason? So, what was the purpose of setting the alarm? More important, what’s your purpose of waking up?
When you know you have a goal to accomplish then every morning you should wake up with the mindset that you are going to get one step closer to that goal. Your attitude when you wake up will determine your approach towards the day. It’s time to make your reality your dream world. It’s time to wake up with a purpose. Don’t snooze your dreams and goals.

Fall asleep with a dream and wake up with a purpose.

Silent Storm

Have you ever come to a point in life where you begin to feel severely overwhelmed with everything? You’re mentally fatigued, emotionally drained, physically exhausted, and no amount of sleep could ever cure the tiredness you feel. Night after night while the rest of the world is sleep, you’re awake in complete silence, sitting in the dark with a mind full of troubled thoughts, praying that God would ease your pain. It’s agonizing battling your troublesome thoughts throughout the night till morning comes. You’re awake when the sun rises and soon your sleepless night turn into yet another restless morning. Have you ever experienced that? Here comes the scene where you look in the mirror and convince yourself you are okay. You prep to look your best so others won’t notice. The truth is no one knows how much you fight to survive each day; they don’t know how much you suffer. You smile to hold back tears; you pretend to be happy but you aren’t. Have you ever had to hold back tears and pretend to be happy? Have you ever felt tired of lying to everyone when they ask how you are? Though you are falling apart on the inside you tell the world you are okay. Little do they know you are screaming “Help me my life is falling apart!” It is the most undesirable feeling to fake a smile while looking someone in the face but you did. So, how can you fake a smile and say you are okay but on the inside you are breaking down? Why did you do it? Take a moment and ask yourself that.  Are you smiling now while reflecting on why you did it? You pay the cost of suffering in silence and doing what it takes to not give up. Oh what a brave soul you have become during your silent storm!

What is a silent storm? A silent storm is not a storm that everyone is aware of or better yet a storm anyone can see. It’s a secret that nobody knows but you. A silent storm can be anything such as: family issues, finance troubles, marriage troubles, car troubles, work related stress, health issues or just simply life obstacles. It can be anything but no one knows but you. No one sees your pain because you hide it so well. You endure a lot inside and don’t say much but I know your pain runs deep. The truth is we all go through a silent storm. So, why do we keep quiet about it? The better question is what’s the purpose of a silent storm my friend?

The one thing you may dislike hearing the most during trouble times is “Everything happens for a reason”. You may think that it would help if you knew that reason right? Well it just may hurt more to know in the beginning so that’s why God reveals it when you’re ready. I know it hurts not knowing why something “unfair” is happening in your life. You may feel sad, hopeless, lonely, and confused. You feel like no one cares. But I have learned that there is something more powerful and stronger on the inside that can only be realized during what seems like unfair hardships. Yes, it’s painful but God has a purpose for your pain. Hard times are meant to develop and build us but the circumstances can be very frightening. We are fighting a war every single day (mostly in our minds) and at times it may feel like we are fighting a losing battle or better yet it may feel like we are going through a midlife crisis. Whether you are young or old we have all experienced that feeling. It’s terrifying! Am I right?  It’s terrifying seeing yourself falling apart right before your very eyes as well as in front of the eyes of others. Although you are falling apart you find it hard to tell someone. We suffer in silence because during silent storms we never tell our close friends, family members or even our significant other (if applicable). The worst part about going through a silent storm is when we feel or think that God is not with us. We feel alone but we always have to remember that we are never alone. Read this last passage very carefully!

God said “He will never leave you nor forsake you.” Yes, sometimes it seems as if God has abandoned us, but remember His Promise! Focus on God when He is taking you through deep trouble waters. When God is silent He is working on something in you for what He has for you. Our blessing is ready, waiting on us but it is us who are not ready. Yes, it may take some time but learn patience. He strengthens our weakness to prepare us for the blessing. Allow God to work on your weakness while making you stronger. What you are going through now is only for a season. You may not understand today or tomorrow, but eventually God will reveal why you went through everything you did. He will restore your family, your marriage, your health, and your finances. Don’t give up because you have what it takes. Be ready for the blessings you are about to receive. Trust Him!

“Watch for the new thing I am going to do. It is happening already — you can see it now! I will make a road through the wilderness and give you streams of water there.”

Isaiah 43:19 GNB

“Keep your lives free from the love of money, and be satisfied with what you have. For God has said, “I will never leave you; I will never abandon you.” Let us be bold, then, and say: “The Lord is my helper, I will not be afraid. What can anyone do to me?””

Hebrews 13:5-6 GNB

Prayer: Lord, keep us encouraged especially when our journey gets rough, our faith grows weak, and our spirit gets lonely. Amen.

Which direction are you going in 2017?

We have traveled many paths over the course of the years– trying to figure out who we are and what we want to do in life. Each year we continue to set goals, make resolutions, and promises to ourselves. Some of us go in the same direction each year only to find ourselves in the same mess. If you continue to do what you have always done then you will only go where you have always been. Do not be in such a hurry to enter 2017 without knowing the direction in which you are headed towards. Many people are going nowhere fast. Are you that person going in circles each year? Do you know your purpose in life? Are you living out your purpose? Are you on the right path towards your destiny? Will the path you chose for 2017 help you become a better person? If not, then it’s time for a change. It’s time for a different plan of action. It is time for a different plan, not your plan but God’s plan. In 2017 ask God to bless your plan and you will be successful in carrying them out. Let God direct your steps.

Proverbs 16:1- 4; 9

  1. We may make our plans, but God has the last word
  2. You may think everything you do is right, but the Lord judges your motives
  3. Ask the Lord to bless your plans, and you will be successful in carrying them out.
  4. Everything the Lord has made has its destiny; and the destiny of the wicked is destruction
  5. You may make your plans, but the Lord directs your actions

God has a plan for your life. But first you must surrender to Him. Please understand that your plans are not God’s plans; our ways are not His ways. God allows us to plan our lives and make preparations with our heart but as you know our heart can sometimes mislead us. So like a good father He wants to lead us and guide us in the right direction. God only wants the best for his children. God created you for his own purpose and inside you is a purpose that’s far greater than you can ever imagine or understand. There is greatness within you that you have yet to unleash. You cannot unleash that greatness within you as long as you are living in your comfort zone. The reasons He shuts doors in your life and lead you into the wilderness (moving you out of your comfort zone) are so that you may be far away from friends and families and hear from Him. He wants to change your hearts and lives, and for you to trust and believe in Him. So that you may bear witness to the goodness of His mighty works and know that He is God.

Isaiah 40:3

  • The voice of one that crieth, Prepare ye in the wilderness the way of Jehovah; make level in the desert a highway of our God.

Isaiah 41:18

  • I will open rivers on the bare heights, and fountains in the midst of the valleys; I will make the wilderness a pool of water.

Isaiah 43:19

  • Behold, I will do a new thing; now shall it spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.

Have faith and let God lead you on the right path, in the right direction. He leads us to discover and understand our purpose through our gifts and talents. He will allow you to fall down and go through some storms. He knows that you have what it takes to survive any situation. After all, he is the creator of all things. He is only preparing you for the blessing(s) that’s awaiting you. What you may think is destroying you is actually building you up for the promise, His promise.  You can’t get to the promise being the same way you are. You must change!

A New Year does not mean a New You until You change.

Psalm 32:8

The Lord says, I will teach you the way you should go; I will instruct you and advise you.
